It's MAMA’S Birthday!

The world has made tremendous progress in reducing maternal, newborn and child death rates. Still, every year, at least 360,000 women die due to complications from pregnancy and childbirth, and 3.1 million newborns do not survive the first month of life. Nearly all of these deaths – 99 percent – occur in the developing world, and most are preventable with basic knowledge and care.

MAMA’s mission is to deliver vital, timely and culturally-sensitive health care information to moms and babies most in need via mobile phones. Progress in its first year is strong. Already, requests have come in from 22 countries from Afghanistan to Zambia to use MAMA’s adaptable messages.

Adaptable Messages Now Available

MAMA is now providing free, adaptable mobile health messages for programs that are using mobile phones to inform and empower new and expectant mothers. These health messages and reminders are comprehensive, stage-based and available in text or audio formats. They can be adapted to different languages and to address specific needs.
