  • June 18According to World Health Statistics 2013, considerable progress has been made towards reducing child and maternal deaths, improving nutrition and reducing deaths and illness from HIV infection, tuberculosis and malaria – especially in low-income countries. However, maternal mortality rate improvements related to childbirth need to be doubled to meet the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. Read more about reducing #maternalmortality here.
  • June 17“Most of the world’s women living with HIV reside in sub-Saharan Africa. Although efforts to reduce mother-to-child transmission are underway, obtaining complete and accurate data from rural clinical sites to track progress presents a major challenge.” Learn how a recent study released by Journal of Medical Internet Research (JMIR) collected maternal health information from HIV-positive pregnant women using mobile phone-assisted face-to-face interviews in Southern Africa.
  • June 16"Men as well as other members of the family and community leaders in mHealth projects need to be involved as part of the solutions since they are often key gatekeepers influencing women’s decisions and ability to access health services." Today we celebrate the men and father's around the world and applaud those who have supported the mobile messaging services that have provided their families health information.
  • June 15In some countries, women’s access to mobile is quite literally a lifeline. That’s why we are proud to send mobile health messages, which meet World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF standards, to women around the world. Our Global Director Kirsten Gagnaire explains how MAMA delivers tailored messages: “ In Bangladesh it's SMS and voice, but most of the mothers using our messages are illiterate: so we use voice messages. In South Africa, women are more literate but SMS is expensive, so we use the mobile web. Our messages are accessible though askmama.mobi."
